Aromatherapy is the practice of using fragrant essential oils and herbs to promote natural healing and health. The practice of aromatherapy has been recorded since ancient Egypt and Babylon where people used pleasing, scented herbs for their medicinal and spiritual properties.
Aromatherapy was coined in the early 1920s. The term was attributed to a French cosmetic chemist
named Rene Maurice Gattefosse. His accident with chemical burns and a vat of lavender essential oil led to the birth of a new science.
Today, modern research has indicated that certain essential oils and herbs used in aromatherapy do indeed have therapeutic and healing properties. Contrary to what the name of the science might connote, aromatherapy focuses more on the oil and not on the aroma. In fact, most aromatherapy products are applied to the skin rather than inhaled.
Speaking of direct application of aromatherapy products, did you know that you can also apply aromatherapy in soap making? If you visit any health store today, you will find that majority of bath soaps put on display are made from aromatic plants and herbs. Clearly, aromatherapy recipe soap is something that has long been in practice and accepted.
Below are some aromatherapy recipe soap making procedures that you can follow to make your own soap flavored with the aromatic scents of beneficial herbs and spices.
